With the generous support of the IEEE Information Theory Society and the National Science Foundation (NSF), travel grants will be available to partially support selected student or early-career co-authors of accepted papers to present their paper at IEEE ITW 2026, Tempe, Arizona, USA.
The support will be in the form of free registration for the main conference plus one free tutorial attendance of your choice.
Eligibility and Selection Criteria
To be eligible for an ITW 2026 Travel Grant, the applicant must:
- Be either a full-time student in an accredited programme at an institution of higher learning or a PhD holder who graduated within the last three years (no earlier than 1 November 2023);
- Be a co-author of an accepted ITW 2026 paper;
- Present the paper at ITW 2026;
- Be recommended by the advisor/mentor with a letter of recommendation (for students) or by a faculty member in the author list or a liner manager (for PhD holders) with a letter of recommendation.
Application Material
The application should consist of the following documents (incomplete applications will not be considered)
- A request/cover letter (maximum 1 page)
- A recent CV (maximum 3 pages)
- A recommendation letter as per instructions below on the institutional letterhead (this letter is to be included openly in the package submitted by the applicant, please note there is no separate or confidential process for this).
Instructions for Request/Cover Letter
The request/cover letter must be one page with the following information:
- Contact information of the applicant: name, email address, academic institution
- For students: degree programme, name and contact details of advisor/mentor
- For PhD holders: research area, name and contact details of collaborator/line manager
- ITW 2026 paper co-authorship: list of ITW 2026 papers (with paper number, title, co-authors)
- A narrative about how the applicant will benefit from participation at ITW 2026 and how this travel grant will facilitate attendance of ITW 2026.
Instruction for Recommendation Letter
The recommendation letter should:
- Be on the institution letterhead
- For students: confirmation that the student is a full-time PhD, master or undergraduate student with good academic standing at the institution
- For PhD holders: confirmation that the applicant is an early career researcher and outline their contributions to the accepted ITW 2026 paper
- A statement on the strength and potential of the applicant and their benefit of participation in ITW 2026
- For students only: Advisor/mentor’s commitment to cover the student’s travel cost that is more than the travel grant

Application Procedure
Applications will be managed via EDAS. Applicants must merge all documents, including the request letter, CV, and the recommendation letter and submit as a single PDF file via EDAS. The EDAS submission link will be posted when paper acceptance notifications are released.
Grant Coverage
The travel grant award covers registration for the ITW 2026 main conference and one complimentary tutorial.
