Call for Tutorials

The 2026 IEEE Information Theory Workshop sseeks proposals for half-day tutorials. The tutorials should present a clear and focused exposition of an emerging topic within the scope of the conference. The emphasis of the proposal should be on teaching attendees the chosen topic:

  • The level and approach of the presentation should be accessible to a typical graduate student in the middle years of their program who are working in the field of information theory and its applications (broadly defined). Avoid assuming too much background and state explicitly what prior knowledge is expected.
  • Proposers are encouraged to select a focused topic rather than a high-level survey of an area, and define clear learning outcomes, i.e., specify what attendees will be able to do by the end of the tutorial.
  • Proposals should emphasize teaching and conceptual exposition, not presenting the proposer’s research results.
  • Tutorials should be 3-3.5 hours including breaks.

The tutorial proposal should describe concisely the content, importance, and timeliness of the tutorial. The proposal should contain a single PDF file with the following information. Authors are encouraged to use the provided template to facilitate easier review.

  • Title of tutorial.
  • The name(s) of the tutorial lecturer(s).
  • Tutorial abstract.
  • Outline of the tutorial, if there is more than one lecturer, indicate the distribution of the tutorial content among the lecturers.
  • Importance and timeliness of the tutorial (1-2 paragraphs).
  • Brief biographies for each tutorial lecturer and a link to their website or other material (e.g. Google Scholar or a CV).
  • Previous lecture and tutorial experience of the tutorial speaker(s).
  • If a version of this tutorial has been given previously by the proposers, a brief description of how (if at all) the proposed tutorial will differ.

We expect to accept two (and at most four) tutorial proposals for ITW 2026.

Submissions should be emailed to ITW 2026 Tutorial Co-Chairs:

Deadline for submission: Jul 1, 2026 Anywhere on Earth (AoE)
